Moderna, Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are temperature sensitive. Chicago’s cold storage facilities face major challenges.
Winter Properties formed a joint venture with Karis Cold Storage, a Chicago-based firm developing cold storage solutions for operators and users. These cold storage projects have become increasingly important during the COVID-19 pandemic, as essential supplies such as vaccines and some food products must be preserved at freezing temperatures.
Karis and Winter Properties were recently featured in The Chicago Tribune:
“With the pandemic we’ve had, not only do you need the same amount of food you’ve been supplying to the population, but you need to be sure you have enough storage when plants go down for weeks at a time,” says Brian Niven, chief investment and development officer at Karis. “What we’re seeing now is the need for more storage for a longer period of time.”
